The Corona Virus: A Life Changer

Written By Avani Bhandari (Grade 8)

A pandemic like COVID 19 was faced by human beings almost a generation back, and it is extremely rare. Coronavirus has had negative as well as positive impacts, but over all our lives have turned completely upside down due to it.

To start with, I would like to talk about the effects of the pandemic on the mental and physical health of people. Human beings are social animals. The fact that we have not been able to meet any of our near and dear ones has impacted our mental health and has led to numerous people feeling lonely and depressed. People are falling ill every second, increasing the usage of hospitals and forming throngs around them.

Not to mention, the Covid 19 virus has changed my way of living in countless ways. When I used to go to school and have all my activities and classes included in my day, I used to be exhausted by the day end and fall into a deep dreamless sleep the moment I went to bed. Now, I don’t get tired enough during the day, so I can’t sleep at night, and I wake up late in the morning! Moreover, online school and classes have turned me into a couch potato. There’s so less interaction now, unlike before, because when we were in school physically people used to be more attentive. Not meeting my friends and my relatives is not unbearable, but it is unimaginably tough to handle.

As rightly said, every cloud has a silver lining. People have gotten more conscious about their health, and are familiar with quite a few immunity boosters. The virus has definitely motivated people to take better care of their health and hygiene. Additionally, the need to run from pilar to post, through the congestion on the roads along with unpredictable traffic, has taken a backseat, reason being everything is online now. As for me, although most of my time is occupied on screen, I have picked up many new hobbies and joined many classes which I never anticipated myself to join in real life. Furthermore, most of us have ended up turning our homes into restaurants! From Dalgona coffee to pizzas, cakes, ice creams, and other dishes, everyone has begun experimenting with food. We’re the chef, the servers, and the customers as well! Due to this, we have begun to save the money that we would usually spend for dining outside in a restaurant.

The pandemic has also led to families becoming closer and relations and bonds becoming stronger. Sitting together to eat as a family was one of the most important things that we stopped doing owing to the fact that my parents were mostly in office, while my brother and I were in school. However, with the lockdown and all the family members at home, the tradition of eating together is back. Besides, now that there is no house help, everyone at home is doing chores from sweeping to washing clothes, which has also made us bond in plenty of ways.

People have looked at this pandemic which has occurred due to coronavirus from so many views and perspectives but I truly believe that we must take it as a lesson and as a blessing in disguise. To conclude, I would like to end in William Shakespeare’s words, which state “Sweet are the uses of adversity.”
