Like a drop of rain

Written by Vedant Sanghvi (Grade 8)

“Finding peace, in the rhythm of the rain”

I was sitting by my bedroom window, reading my favourite book, “Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief’ when the dark clouds starting enveloping the sky, leaving behind a faint glimmer of the last rays of the sun. Soon thereafter, the heavens burst open and it started to rain.

They say that rain can do wonders. Both good and bad. On the one hand, it helps the crops to grow providing us with food and on the other hand, it may even cause a flood. Rains can restore and rains can destroy. But the one thing that no one knows about the rain is that it inspires.

Rain has many advantages. It helps in the growth of the crops for consumption and commercial purposes and can be used for hydration. It is home to the marine animals.  Rainwater droplets falling on the ground have a very calm and soothing rhythm. But of course, there are disadvantages too. Sometimes it might be raining very heavily and there might be floods. The rainwater might collect in one area and block off any access to a place. Sometimes, they destroy homes leaving people hopeless. However, rainfall gives us hope. The droplets fall on the ground and then evaporate. This teaches us a very important lesson in life. When we fall, we must always get up and never give up. Rain teaches us that it is okay to make mistakes.  Rain makes us aware of what is going to happen. Before it rains, there is either lightning or dark clouds. We must be prepared for anything that life throws our way.   The unpredictability of a shower inspires us to be prepared for the unpredictability of life! We must be prepared for any situation and tackle it, either gently, like the rain drops falling softly on the ground or with more strength and vigour like the thunderstorms.

The rain is a gentle reminder that beauty sometimes emerges from the most ordinary places, just like a beautiful lotus that grows in the mud. The rain reminds us of the rhythm and harmony of life…it reminds us of the storms, the dark grey clouds that may shroud our life….. only for us to look for that silver lining at the end of the rainbow.

When I opened my window, the air was filled with petrichor and it seemed as if everything had got a new life.
