Dance – A Form of Limitless Expression

Written By Jiya Jain (Grade 10)

The art form I like the most is dance. Dance is a form of art that is practiced around the globe. There are various types of dance, like Hip-Hop, Ballet, Swing, Kathak, Modern, Bharatanatyam, Belly, Tap, Line, Salsa, Ballroom, Folk, Garba, Flemenco, Zumba, Bollywood, Break, Waltz, Tango, Samba, Bhangra, Kathakali, Yakshagana, Contemporary, Jazz, Freestyle, and Raas, among others. The type of dance I like the most is freestyle.

Dance has always been a part of our culture, rituals, and celebrations. Today, dance is all about recreation and self-expression, although it is also practiced as a competitive activity. People can choose dance as their career in today’s world. Dance can be translated to better posture, improved mobility, and an elevated mood.

Dance is also called ‘The Hidden Language of Our Soul’. We use this as a language when we fall short of words. Dancing helps us express our feelings without even conversing with each other. The joy of dancing helps us to overcome our fear, sorrow, and even adversity sometimes. Dance inspires me for the following reasons:

  • It unites us.
  • It helps us come together and celebrate festivals.
  • Dancing is great for our mental and emotional health.
  • It has many health benefits.
  • It builds great self-confidence and independence.

When we think of dance, a professional dancer comes to mind. These dancers are now famous because they faced various struggles in life. Some professional dancers whom I adore are Prabhu Deva, Remo D’Souza, Punit J. Pathak, Dharmesh Yelande, Raghav Juyal, Hrithik Roshan, and Tiger Shroff. Prabhu Deva is my dance icon.

Dance is the translator of our hearts. What is most important is that dance can’t and shouldn’t be perfect. As long as you’re happy, there is no correct way to dance, and you can dance as per your wish. The full form of “DANCE” for me is:

D: Discipline

A: Attitude

N: New

C: Confidence

E: Expression

I would like to conclude this article with this quote by another one of my favourite dancers and choreographers, Remo D’Souza: “Life is all about the next step.”
