How to study?

Written By Meghana Gowda KS (Grade 11)

In this technologically advanced world, education has become a major part of everyone’s life. Studying hard is very important in every student’s life. Along with hard work, smart work is also very important. By studying hard a student can be self-disciplined, have mental health and even be responsible.

Now, every student has a question on how to learn faster and more efficiently? For that here is the answer.. first of all, start by praying to god for a good and disciplined education.

While studying for your exams it is better to study each subject every day instead of studying only one subject for a long time. Because if you read only one subject for a long time your concentration level will become less and you will get confused and bored. So always spread out your time to study various subjects.

Studies say that students who sit on the front benches will get higher scores in exams than the students who will sit on the last benches. The studies even show that multitasking students are not actually good at studies than the average students. Rank students just focus on only one thing at a time so that’s why they don’t need much time to study. So don’t try to study while using your mobile or watching TV and keep your mobile in silent mode or Airplane mode to reduce distractions.

If you are worried and have anxiety about your coming exams. Note down all your worries. Your worries could be as follows.

  • What should I do when I forgot the answers in the exam hall?
  • What if the exam is harder than I expect?
  • What if I get fewer marks in exams?
  • What if I don’t get sufficient time to write the answers?

These types of questions may arrive in your head and may cause anxiety. So write down all your worries for just 10 minutes. And try to find solutions to these questions.

Do refer question types from different resources and practice more and more to score good marks. Always learn key concepts louder because by reading out loud you both hear and see them. Don’t learn things in a hurry because if you hurry then you will get frustrated and your concentration level will decrease.

To study smarter follow these things:

Step 1: Read textbooks than your notebook. Underline the key points and concepts. Don’t stop memorizing these key concepts or points frequently.

Step 2: After completing Step 1 for the entire chapter, go back to the underlined parts and read that loudly as many times as you wish to.

Step 3: After this take a 5 min break.

Step 4: After a 5-minute break, go back to the underlined concepts and points. And cover it with your hand or a piece of paper and try to memorize it without seeing. And also write it once without seeing it in your rough book.

Step 5: For the concepts that you have doubts note them down on a sheet of paper and the next day ask your teachers in school or college. If you haven’t successfully memorized certain topics for them repeat steps 2,3 and 4.

Take study breaks regularly. The research says that breaks help you to study faster as you won’t get bored. So, take 5-10 minute breaks for every 45 minutes of work.

Study by rewarding yourself. The rewards could be as simple as:

  • Going for a short walk
  • Eating healthy snack
  • Hearing soothing songs, etc

You probably think you are drinking sufficient water, but studies say that up to 75% of people are in a chronic state of dehydration. It is bad for your brain and for your exam grades too. So, drink at least 8-10 glasses of water per day. And even during exams, bring your water bottle and drink every 1 hour.

Do yoga daily for at least 2 hours. It helps you to improve your memory, concentration level and refreshes your mind.

Always sleep for at least 8 hours a day. Don’t be awake the whole night. The research proves that if you want to be more focused, learn faster and increase your brain power, you should get enough sleep. So don’t pull all-nighters. If you won’t get enough sleep then you will make careless mistakes and will get low marks in tests and exams.

Eat more and more healthy foods like blueberries and choline foods like eggs, chicken, fish, cabbage, broccoli, almonds and other choline foods.

It’s all our problem.. we study but we forget in the exam hall.. why is that so? Here is the answer. It is all because of exam stress. While studying, make sure that you are noting down the important points for quick revision. Don’t study till the last minute of your exam. You just revise what you have noted for a quick revision. Stay relaxed at your exam hall. During exams avoid intake of fats.

Always stay positive. Don’t think of negative things and be calm and be stress-free before the exam.

Education should get for everyone to build a strong and modernized nation. It is about more than getting good grades. There is hard work involved and smart work as well.
