Misty Danielle Copeland taught us that success doesn’t define us, and failure doesn’t break us. It’s the courage to continue that counts. Despite suffering from a broken back that caused excruciating pain, Misty showed good resilience by flaunting her ballet skills. Misty Copeland’s go-getter personality inspires me.
Misty Copeland’s talent in ballet was first recognized by her school’s drill team coach. She was then encouraged to take up private lessons with Bradley, and her natural ability was soon noticed. As she started rehearsing for her stage performances, Misty faced disappointment when she was told to lighten her skin with makeup, as the judges wouldn’t approve of Misty’s dark colour. However, she refused to comply and went up on stage anyway, impressing the judges with her graceful performances. Despite facing several hurdles in her career, Misty remained steadfast in her pursuit of excellence. She continued to work hard and soon became the first African-American woman to be promoted to principal dancer at the American Ballet Theatre. Misty’s remarkable journey and her unwavering determination to break down barriers and challenge stereotypes have inspired countless people across the world. Sadly, a few years later, Misty suffered a severe injury and broke her back. Despite the injury, Misty had already received an invitation to perform a solo dance. On the day of the performance, the audience was informed that Misty had broken her back and was asked to leave. However, Misty refused to let the injury defeat her and danced anyway. Her sheer determination and dedication to her craft left the audience in awe and inspired a whole generation of aspiring dancers.
Misty’s determination and perseverance make her an inspiration to many. Her story shows that no matter what challenges we face, we should never give up and always keep practising.
