The Proud Lucknowi Nawabis

Written By Pratyaksha Verma (Grade 7)

“Your pride for your land should not come after your country becomes great; your country becomes great because of your pride in it.” Idowu Koyenikan said and I proudly relate.

One lazy Sunday morning, the birds were chirping. Our squirrels were feasting on perfectly roasted nuts. And the aroma of freshly perfected kebabs could win our hearts. The kulfi-seller rushed to our house just at the perfect moment when we were done with desi Awadhi lip-smacking food. According to my opinion, this was just the perfect time to reach because kulfi is not just an Indian ice cream, it is an emotion that mesmerises us so perfectly, that we feel so contended on licking those kulfis which are really working on themselves to make our life just perfect.

That afternoon, the sun’s rays left no stone unturned, they were perfectly worn by Lucknow; the city of Nawabs. Everything was indeed perfect. After our Lucknowi family had completed relishing on the meal, they lay on the bed; yes you heard it right, they, not me because I was following my daily ritual of reading the newspaper. The first page was usually full of advertisements that just nobody cares about, someone rarely takes the initiatives for reading that part, but I did. I might sound strange but then yes, I did. But, to my astonishment, this time they were advertising Lucknow that just put a feeling of pride and joy in me.

It consisted of many topics like Lucknow’s architecture that knows no bounds whether it is the Bara Imambara, Sikandar bagh, Rumi darwaza, Jama Masjid, Dilkusha Kothi or Quadam-e-Rasooli (shrine). The prominent food items include biryani, Lucknowi kebab, chole bhature, basket chaat, Lucknowi paan and sheer korma. The Europeans, the Britishers, the Mughals have influenced Lucknow’s multi culture and beauty. The article talked about Lucknow’s great cuisine, music in the form of nautanki, classical music and dance forms like kathak. The industries of Lucknow were also spoken about. The renowned ones are of the jewellery that has exquisite patterns; the traditional Chikankari work is also native to the land and notable throughout the Indian mainland. I learnt that the fishes are the symbols that are officially used in Lucknow in many departments. In addition to it, I believe that the common folk of Lucknow are very welcoming, pleasant and open for help. Lucknow constitutes people of all religions and cultures.

Praising this article was for a purpose to signify my land and to speak how it inspires me. Lucknow being the capital of Uttar Pradesh is important for all government work as it acts like the headquarters of Uttar Pradesh. The bench of the high court that is recently built here is significant for getting proper judgements and smooth working of the judiciary. The Vidhan Sabha and the Vidhan Parishad are crucial for the legislature. Lucknow holds the most importance in the state of Uttar Pradesh, that is the highest populated state, makes Lucknow extremely populous and major. A dominant part of this population is the youth, the learners of today and the leaders of tomorrow, thus Lucknow plays a major role in tomorrow’s Indian world. Technology of Lucknow has touched great heights with determining examples of over eight hundred thriving technology related businesses, it is also a home to excellence in artificial intelligence and hence near to the next IT hotspot in India. Aerospace science has flourished throughout the years as many aerospace companies have worked in this advanced land and have succeeded to improve its science corridor. Lucknow is the home to Bharat Ratna Shree Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana stadium that is the third largest stadium of India and the Janeshwar Mishra Park that is the Largest park in Asia.

Thus, Lucknow has been a significant centre of governance, administration, education, technology, design, culture, tourism, music, poetry, aerospace, finance and artistic hubs. This article inspires me to serve this extraordinarily beautiful land and I aspire to inspire people to keep the legacy of us, the Nawabs on and on for years till the date this universe exists. After all, if not now, then eventually we have to take the charge for maintaining what we have today and bring glory to our land. I feel pride and confident to say that Lucknow is where I am born. I am serving, and I will always by inspiring the young youth like me tomorrow.
