Visual Arts

Written by Vivaan Sanghvi (Grade 8)

One of the best pieces of art that I have seen was a painting, The Mona Lisa, at the Louvre Museum in Paris. It must have been five years ago, but that artistic painting is still remembered by my family and me.

It’s amazing how an artist expresses an opinion, thought, or feeling through his brush strokes. It is one of the oldest art forms in the world. The first painting was made more than forty thousand years ago by prehistoric humans. They drew animals on the walls of the caves they lived in. These ‘paintings’ were found in regions of Western Europe, Indonesia, and the famous Bhimbetka caves in India. In a painting, everything depends on the artist, on what he wants to paint, and on his mood. An artist could use any colour or texture to depict his idea on a canvas; an artist has the liberty to do anything.

The most interesting part of a painting is its visual satisfaction. Whenever an artist paints, they aim to satisfy everyone with visual satisfaction. An artist’s job is well done when they paint on a canvas so intricately that the textures become so beautiful and the picture pops out. Many people think the best paintings are the Mona Lisa or The Starry Night, but they are only a glimpse of what an artist can do. It is inspiring how imagination is drawn from the simple things of life. Painting is the best form of art, as when words don’t speak to you, the paint will.
