The Meaning Behind Life

Written By Sumati Varma (Grade 9)

Biology describes life as a series of chemical reactions,
others think it to be a journey of social interactions.
Some devote themselves and their lives to others,
Such as our selfless mothers.

However, the only question that arises is, why?
Why must we give our best in our life and why must we try?
Why should we liv even if we know that eventually we all will die?

Everyone has their own answer,
One wants to be a national dancer,
While the other just wants to win over a disease such as the cruel cancer.

If you are reading this, you may have an answer too,
If you yet don’t, one day you may just have a breakthrough.
But, what if an answer is never found?
Then was that life nothing except of waiting around?

Maybe or maybe not,
It depends on a lot.
But primarily, it depends on what you perceive life to be,
Do you think it to be a purpose, an answer or just a journey where you can be free?

So, that again brings us to the question, what really is meaning of life itself,
And that answer, is just one’s self.
Life can be whatever you want it to be, it is your view
So truly the meaning of your life is nothing but you.

Hi, I’m Sumati Varma and I’m a 14 year old ambivert. I have a soft spot when it comes to art, especially poetry and highly respect authors. My poetry usually comes from the darker, deeper aspect of life. My thought process and writings come from people who are suffering or are in pain but can’t find the words to express themselves. So I thought maybe I can do it for them.
